Therapeutic counselling, Nature therapy, Supervision and training

Counselling and therapy online and in Balham, Streatham and throughout London's green spaces.

“Man does not simply exist but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become the next moment. By the same token, every human being has the freedom to change at any instant.”

Viktor E. Frankl,

I am a professionally qualified Forest Therapy Guide and a BACP accredited Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor. I work with adult and young people above the age of 13. My consulting rooms are based in Chelsea and Streatham. I also use London’s green spaces to facilitate Ecotherapy sessions for individuals and groups. I also offer supervision and training for other mental health professionals. My approach is tailored around your needs, and I aim to respond to your uniqueness with compassion and creativity.

Lee Robert White, counsellor in Balham & Streatham

I retrained as a counsellor in 2008 after spending my earlier professional life as a painter and decorator. During my training I worked in a bereavement service. I then went on to work in a prison before going into private practice in 2015.

Alongside my private practice I have had a rich and varied career. I worked in a residential psychosis service and for a service supporting survivors of sexual abuse. I then went on to work within the homeless community where I held a small case load of clients who had experienced trauma and offered supervision and training for those working with them. It was whilst doing this work that I noticed the benefits of working alongside clients in greens spaces such as parks and commons. I then went on to do further training in forest therapy and earned my diploma as forest therapy guide. I now mix my work between working in my consulting rooms and where helpful working in London’s green spaces.

I know that going into therapy can be a daunting prospect and I want you to feel as reassured as possible at what might be a difficult time. Please feel free to call me for an informal chat where you can ask any questions about therapy and the work I do. I am also happy to answer any questions or concerns you have via email.

Counselling offers a space where you can work through issues you are finding difficult. People often find it hard to talk about certain problems or difficulties they are having with friends and loved ones. The counselling relationship is different to any other relationship as the counsellor is there 100% for you with the sole intention of helping you work through and process your problems.

Walk and Talk Therapy

Nature offers us a unique insight into our internal world as well as how we fit into the world around us. For millennia humans evolved in tandem with the natural world. In terms of our evolutionary journey it is only recently we came to live in city's and towns disconnected from the natural land.

FAQs

How long is a counselling session?

A counselling session is 50 minutes

What happens in the initial session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I will carry out an informal assessment in which I will ask some questions about you, your background and what brings you to counselling. You can ask me any questions and raise any concerns you have. We then can talk about how to proceed together. you may decide counselling is not for you or that we are not necessarily a good fit, you are not committed to continue and off course you can take some time to think about it.

How often should I have counselling?

Counselling usually takes place one a week, on the same day and time.

Is it confidential?

I adhere by the BACP guidelines which means confidentiality is at the utmost importance. The only time i will consider breaking confidentiality is if i think you or someone else is at risk or i am legally bound to do so. I will always discuss this with you and seek to obtain your consent.

What happens if I can not make a session?

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, this means that if you give 24 hours notice you will not have to pay for the missed session.

How many sessions do I need?

Each person is different and the length of the therapy depends on what surfaces in the counselling room. I work both short term and long term. in the initial session we can discuss together how long the work may take. I would normally book an initial 6 week block, after 6 weeks we can review and talk about how to proceed.
